Credit Card Information
Everyone at one point or another has had a credit card before. But if you knew now what you did not know then you would be more careful with your credit. Credit card companies target college students because they know a student needs things and they don't often have jobs when they go to school. So they send them fresh out of high school a credit card application and because most students at that age did not have any other credit before it would make sense they have near perfect credit.
So what happens is they get card and figure they could send in a small amount of money per month but they could get what they need now. That is what starts the downfall. Students are not responsible enough to have a credit card because they cannot control their spending. Then as they get deeper and deeper in debt, the credit card companies start to send them pre approved cards. Then by the time they are in their mid 20's they don't have any credit left.
Some students don't get approached with cards until the graduate. This is actually a good time to offer cards. With interest rate so high and with the easiness for young people to get credit it is almost impossible to pay back credit. But if the credit cards companies waited until people were responsible to manage their credit then most Americans would not be in that much debt and I guess that would defeat the purpose. Credit cards are a double edge sword, you need them to afford the things you cannot buy at the time and then after a while you cannot afford to pay them back be3cyuase they load you with interest.
Before applying for a card, try to apply for a card that has the lowest interest rate and beware of the cards that say zero interest because those are the cards that have zero interest for the first 6 months and then it goes up to over 12 percent which is still a great rate. Shop around, some cards offer cash back or bonus flyer miles. Try to get the most out of the cards you are applying for. Keep the interest low and keep your spending under control , it may be the only way to successfully have a credit card for years to come.
